Loyal MQM leaders won’t defect to other parties: Waseem Akhtar

KARACHI: Mutahidda Qaumi Movement (MQM) mayor-nominee Waseem Akhtar says people will stay loyal to their party as they voted for the party in local bodies’ election.
“All councilors elected belonging to the MQM will also remain loyal and not defect to other parties,” he said while speaking to media here.
Akhtar said that people have high hopes from the local bodies’ government. “The Sindh government should immediately convene a session of the elected officials and councilors.”
He opined that election for the mayor should be held after decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, otherwise the Sindh government could face contempt of court charges.
“The city will only progress when powers will be devolved to the lower levels.”
Akhtar said the efforts have been made to prepare for the impending heat wave in the city. They have spoken to the water board management and made district wise arrangements in this regard, he added.
