Reporters Without Borders terms Iqrar’s arrest ‘inappropriate’

KARACHI: Reporters Without Borders, an international body that advocates press freedom worldwide, has said that it will take up the matter of arrest of ARY News’ anchorperson Iqrarul Hassan with the Government of Pakistan, ARY News reported.
“Hassan acted in the good faith and identified security loopholes,” said Reporters Without Borders, noting that journalists across the globe highlight issues.
“These were the security flaws due to which incidents like the 9/11 occurred,” it contended.
The international journalists’ body said the decision of arresting Iqrarul Hassan does not conform to the norms and is ‘inappropriate’.
Earlier in the day, Iqrarul Hassan conducted a sting operation along with his team exposing the poor security cover at the Sindh Assembly.
But, the authorities instead of taking measures vent their anger on anchorperson, taking him and his team members into custody.
Since then, Hassan remains under detention with the Aram Bagh police, while newsmen and a large number of commoners have been arriving outside the police station to express solidarity with him.
